Phoenix is a project aimed at creating cheaper and greener residential properties that will also be designed and built faster and cheaper than traditional methods.

California, United States, faces a housing shortage estimated at 3 million homes.

Phoenix is a collaboration between MBH Architects, Factory_OS and Autodesk Research that aims to create cheaper, greener housing that is also quicker and cheaper to design and build than traditional methods. Phoenix is a 316-unit modular housing complex located in an area that suffers from severe traffic congestion and noise pollution. Autodesk claims that the phone number in vietnamese project's budget, construction time and carbon footprint will be cut in half.

When creating the design of the Phoenix residential modules, the designers aimed to adhere to the concept of carbon neutrality. That is why it uses various innovative materials, such as facade panels made from mycelium - a root-like structure of fungi. The panels themselves have a negative level of carbon emissions due to the large volume of plant material, which absorbs a significant amount of carbon dioxide from the air as it grows.

The project implementation time, from design to actual construction, is one year. And all modules, including external cladding panels, are manufactured outside the construction site.

Factory_OS, a California-based modular construction company (which Autodesk has invested heavily in), produces studio, one-bedroom, and three-bedroom apartments with living modules that can be assembled on-site “like Lego.” In collaboration with MBH Architects, Factory_OS engineers have developed about 25 different modules that can be assembled in a variety of ways to create a variety of building types.

“Our goal is to solve the housing crisis and the environment, without turning it into a race to the bottom that results in terrible quality homes that are ‘modular.’ The idea is to raise the bar for quality,” said Andrew Meagher, vice president of engineering and design at Factory_OS.

"We want to move away from the McDonald's approach, where you can recognize the same buildings anywhere in the world. And if you use a particular design of façade panel, ideally it is just one of the options available to you, and over time you can use any configuration of this element - bay windows, niches, tongue and groove panels, etc. However, the main living module will remain unchanged," he added.
