The profile of the self-employed in Spain, do you fit it?

Post by jrineakter »

There is no doubt that the self-employed are a VERY important part of the Spanish economy. The figures support this. At the beginning of this year, there were already 3,191,291 people registered in the Special Regime for Self-Employed Workers (RETA). It could be that the policies that encourage entrepreneurship are being successful, that business initiatives are growing, or that we have no other choice. Whatever the case, the profile of the self-employed in Spain is very well defined. Do you want to know what it is? Are you within the profile? We will see.

Profile of the Spanish self-employed
If we take into account that indonesia number data according to the Active Population Survey the number of employed people is 18,508,100, we see that the percentage of self-employed workers rises to 17.25%. Or what is the same, for every 10 workers, almost 2 of them are self-employed. These are the characteristics of self-employed workers in Spain.

Gender
65.2% are men, which means that 2 out of 3 self-employed workers are men.
However, the good news is that the number of women who are self-employed is increasing every month. They now account for 34.8%, which is an increase of 1.3% compared to the previous year.

Age
In this respect, the largest group is that of self-employed people aged between 40 and 54 , who are 45.7% of the total.
A notable aspect is the low level of entrepreneurship among those under 25, as they only represent 1.9% of the bulk of self-employed workers.
One in four (26.8%) is between 25 and 39 years old, while 25.6% is over 50 years old.

Sector
The sector with the most self-employed workers is commerce, with 23.8%. This is followed by those dedicated to the following sectors:

One fact that shows us the good health of entrepreneurship in our country is that the largest proportion of self-employed workers is among those with more than 5 years of experience, specifically 55.2% of the total.

Most self-employed workers pay the minimum contribution (86%). This figure increases to 90% when the self-employed person is under 40 years old.

With or without workers
Only 1 in 5 (21.6%) has at least one employee under his/her charge. A figure that, although low, has increased compared to last year. In addition, we must take into account the figure of the self-employed collaborator , which implies that the self-employed person has help from a family member who is also self-employed.
These self-employed people who have hired workers have generated a total of 45,011 new jobs during 2016.
Therefore, we see that the profile of the self-employed person in Spain is a man, between 40 and 54 years old, who works in the trade sector, has more than 5 years of experience and does not have employees under his/her charge.
