Measures announced by TikTok

Post by Abdur14 »

TikTok has implemented a data portability API . Until now, the social network allowed users to download a static copy of their posts and request a copy of their data for use on other platforms. However, this process did not address the dynamic nature of data, which is constantly changing and being renewed.

The new Data Portability API seeks to overcome this limitation, allowing third-party developers to build pipelines for data to flow from TikTok into their own apps , provided the user authorizes it.

Through the API, developers can request access to “all available data” or to individual categories, including TikTok posts and profile data, activity, and direct messages (DMs) . It’s important to note that to gain approval, developers must demonstrate a “well-defined use case . ”

TikTok also announced improvements to its main “download your data” tool . This update will allow users to select which specific categories of data they want to download, such as direct messages or vietnam number data posts. This improvement will initially be available in the EU and will be rolled out globally in the future .

What happens if the DMA is not complied with?
On March 4, 2024, it was announced that the EU had imposed a fine of more than €1.8 billion on Apple , imposing its first antitrust sanction for violating competition laws. The European Commission accused the tech giant of unfairly favoring its streaming music service, Apple Music, over its competitors .

The investigation was launched five years ago following a complaint from Spotify and focused on Apple’s practice of preventing developers from informing iOS users about cheaper music subscription services outside of the app. This restriction, which lasted for nearly a decade, led to many users paying significantly higher prices for streaming music subscriptions.

Failure to comply with the Digital Markets Directive was key to the imposition of the fine. The DMA is designed to regulate the behaviour of large technology companies and ensure a fair and competitive digital market . In this case, Apple was accused of violating competition rules by restricting information about cheaper alternatives.
