E-mail and social media. Two expressions that are frequently used by organizations for their communication or marketing. Two channels with different properties but with a common goal, such as recruiting customers and maintaining contacts. Which communication tool is the most popular?
An American study by Adobe shows that e-mail is the most popular means of communication among Americans. Of the respondents, 38 percent prefer mail, followed by a personal conversation (27 percent), telephone (16 percent), messaging applications (10 percent). Social media are the least popular; only 2 percent prefer these platforms. The popularity of e-mail was also reflected in the annual study by Blinker . As many as 85 percent of the respondents indicated that they subscribe to new newsletters. E-mail is also at the top for personal communication.
I'd rather receive an email than a text message
When it comes to staying up to date with brands, respondents also prefer email as a means of communication. Almost half of respondents would like to be kept up to date by a company/brand via email, followed by direct mail (22 percent), mobile applications (9 percent), social media (8 percent) and text messages/apps (7 percent).
Annoyance
The many emails, apps and messages that we send and receive do cause irritation. For example, more than a quarter of respondents indicate that they get annoyed when someone takes the time during a personal conversation to play a game on their mobile phone (27 percent), check their social media accounts (14 percent) or check their mailbox (9 percent).
