Merlion Park
This iconic park is located next to the Marina Canal and very close to the famous Helix Bridge , the iconic spiral bridge that connects Marina Bay Sands to Marina Centre.
There you will find the majestic Merlion statue , an iconic figure with a lion's head and a fish's body that spouts water from its mouth, measuring 8.6 metres and weighing 70 tonnes. It was built by Lim Nang Seng, a local craftsman, and designed by Kwan Sai Kheong in 1964, although the first statue dates back to 1972.

The meaning behind this statue lies in Singapore's origins and identity. The body represents Singapore's humble beginnings as a fishing village known as Temasek, while the lion's head symbolises the city's new name: Lion City .
