Wellbeing at work: a key factor in improving productivity

Post by monira444 »

According to a survey by McKinsey and Microsoft, more than 40% of workers worldwide are thinking about changing jobs. The factors that influence this are diverse: the desire for more personal time, a better balance between family and work, the post-pandemic economic rebound and remote work. So much so that today, when choosing a new job, people expect to find established workplace wellness policies, which are already a fundamental business strategy to achieve results.

What is workplace wellbeing?
There are many different definitions of workplace wellbeing that help to better understand this concept. For example, the International Labour Organization highlights that workplace wellbeing involves all aspects of working life, including:

Quality of work;
Security;
Around;
Company organization.
According to the World Health Organization's sweden whatsapp data definition, mental health is "a state of well-being" in which an individual "is able to make use of his or her abilities; can cope with normal everyday stress; can work productively; and is able to contribute to his or her community." The most efficient structures, therefore, are those with satisfied employees and a serene and participative internal climate.

The workplace, in fact, is one of the contexts that can most directly influence mental, physical, economic and social well-being, with direct impacts on the health of families and, therefore, the community. According to the World Economic Forum , most companies consider employee health a priority, but many do not have a well-defined strategy to achieve this. The possible consequences are burnout, stress, anxiety and, therefore, errors at work and poor performance, high rates of absenteeism and turnover: all risks that denote an unhealthy work environment.

Why is workplace wellbeing important?
In today's work environment, employee wellbeing has become a crucial element for the success of companies. Investing in employee wellbeing, in fact, not only contributes to creating a healthier and more balanced work environment, but also guarantees tangible and intangible benefits for all parties involved. A recent Gallup report highlights that caring for employees involves:

69% fewer employees likely to look for a new job;
71% less likely to experience burnout episodes;
36% more satisfied employees.
For this reason, companies are increasingly focusing on the concept of workplace well-being: an idea that encompasses the psychophysical sphere of staff, and that implies social, financial and professional well-being, placing people at the centre of the business organisation.
