The Timerevsky archaeological complex is one of the most famous monuments of North-Eastern Rus' of the early Middle Ages. It includes about 500 burial mounds, settlements on an area of 11 hectares, as well as treasures and other objects of great interest to science.

The study of the complex began in 1872, and the work proceeded with varying degrees of intensity. In the mid-20th century, they stalled, as scientists believed that they had excavated the entire burial ground. However, additional research made it possible to find an ancient settlement and other burial mounds, which led to a surge of interest in this place, which became one of the richest in valuable archaeological finds. Among them, for example, is the largest hoard of Arab dirhams from the 9th century in Eastern Europe.
