Walter Epp: Welcome to the Schreibsuchti Show. It's about writing better, building an audience and earning money. And today? Sebastian Kühn, author of twelve new lives, is visiting. Welcome, Sebastian. You wrote the book twelve new lives. And it has a very interesting motto. You wanted to experience something great and then write about it. That fits perfectly with Schreibsucht, where I always say that if I write great, it's great. Or Benjamin Franklin said that you either live a life that's worth writing about or write something that's worth reading. You've kind of done both and now you're going to tell us how you came up with the idea of living twelve new lives. What's the story behind the book and how did you write it?
Sebastian Kühn: It was the perfect opening with a quote . I discovered writing quite late. I'm almost 40 now, I became self-employed at 30 and let my husband go because of a bad memory of German lessons and started writing, including a blog . At first I mainly wrote advice articles, so to speak, relatively rational, clearly belarus telegram screening structured about bureaucratic tax topics. But I noticed that I really enjoyed this creative writing , which I gradually improved with feedback from my readers, and I was really keen on a larger book project. And just as you say, I was at that point at the time and thought I need to experience something cool, I want to develop myself further so that I can then put it into words and put it into a book. And that was the case in 2018 with twelve lifestyle experiments that I did. Every month I tried out a different lifestyle model for myself. And then the following year I wrote about it.
Sebastian Kühn: The idea had been in my head for a long time, very undeveloped. Then there were a few upheavals in my life in 2017 and then I gained my readership. I had a relatively large reach through my blog at the time. Everything live. I asked my readers, "Hey, what would you like to try out? What new habits and routines, what lifestyle, what stereotypes do you find particularly interesting?" And then they submitted an incredible number of suggestions. A few absurd things like "I'll try being a pick-up artist and try to get a different woman into bed every day." Or "I'll drink a bottle of vodka every day and see what that does to your values." But there were a lot of cool suggestions and then ultimately this year I always did the experiment, completely dictated by others, to see what got the most votes. Always in the following month.
