It's been a few years since I started my first marathon blog in German. Since then I've probably created and participated in about 10 blogs. There are people with much more experience, but I still dare to share what I've learned since then... ;)

I started blogging during my PhD in Switzerland. That was when I started training for my first marathon. Next Sunday I will run my tenth in Barcelona (how time flies). Seeing that I was starting to get passionate about the subject, I decided to start a blog (in German) about it. I had the same fears that a blogger has when starting out as most of you. Since then it has been 7 years and I have learned a few things along the way.

Experiences of a blogger

1. If you want to blog you don't have to be an expert in anything.

2. You have to write for dummies so your mother understands what you are talking about.

3. To get promoted by others, promote others first.

4. With good content you don't have to be an SEO expert to rank well.

5. Don't try to trick Google because sooner or later it will catch you.

6. To write better, you have to write more .

7. You have to look on the bright side journalist email list when you encounter a troll on your blog .

8. Lack of time is not an excuse not to blog .

9. Writing helps you relax .

10. Although it is not easy, you can make money with a blog as a beginner .

11. The title is 80% of the success of a post .

12. The ideal blogger does not exist.

13. There are over 100 reasons to start a blog that I hadn't thought of at first.

It doesn't matter if you've been blogging for years or you've just published your first post. What have you learned from being a blogger?
