LThe Association of Information Media (AMI) has taken legal action against Meta on behalf of 83 Spanish media outlets, accusing it of systematically violating European data protection laws from May 2018 to July 2023. The lawsuit highlights that Meta has repeatedly ignored regulations requiring citizens' consent to use their data for advertising personalization, as indicated by European authorities.

In the legal proceedings, the media argue that Meta's behaviour has led to 100% of its targeted advertising revenue being obtained illegally. It is argued that the company has massively used users' personal data, tracking them without their consent throughout their digital browsing, which would have given it an unfair competitive advantage when selling advertising space in the market. The legal action is being led by the law firm led by the Professor of Procedural Law Nicolás González-Cuéllar.

José Joly, president of AMI, highlights the importance of canada number data this action, underlining how Meta has built its dominance in the advertising market by ignoring regulations intended to protect the privacy of European citizens. He also points out that behaviour such as Meta's endangers the survival of the media, which are essential to the democratic quality of a country.

Joly points out that, according to recent data from the Ministry of Economy, the media is the second most digitalised sector in the Spanish economy, although its ability to obtain fair income is hampered by the dominance of large digital platforms.

AMI calls on advertisers in the public and private sectors to trust in secure media that respect citizens' rights, promoting democratic quality in Spain, in line with social responsibility policies.
