When Oliver Sandmann founded the company Sascotec in 2012, he combined a hobby with his job. "Horses are a real family tradition for us." After completing his studies, he therefore devoted himself to a very special product: a horse treadmill that satisfies the animals' need for exercise. "Horses used to run up to 60 km a day to search for food," explains Sandmann, drawing attention to a problem that arises in times of increasing urbanization. More and more cities are buying land from stable and pasture owners in order to counteract the shortage of living space. However, this also happens at the expense of the horses in these areas, who are deprived of free space to move around.
“Horses that are kept in boxes are no different to people who just sit in an office: they get fat and lethargic.” In winter, there is another problem: frozen and snow-covered pastures mean that horses with horseshoes have difficulty moving on the slippery surface, start to limp, or even injure themselves. Sascotec has developed the horse treadmill to solve these problems. It is independent of space and weather and encourages the horses to get more exercise.
