Play games and control vehicles with your eyes — new patents from Nvidia, Electronic Arts and Disney
09.11.2021
Disney, Nvidia, and Electronic Arts have filed patents for promising new technologies that, if implemented, could make driving easier and consuming content more engaging.

Driving a car using gaze detection technology
Nvidia has come up with a way to drive a car faster and safer: in addition to voice instructions from the driver, the car will take into account the direction of the driver's gaze. The system will use sensor data and a spatial map, and then compare it with voice commands.

For example, if the driver looks in the direction of the multimedia system and asks to “turn it up,” the car will be able to determine that it is about sound.

At the end of October, Ford filed a similar patent: the company wants to use neurocomputer interfaces to control a car with thoughts.

Both methods can improve road safety. But on the other hand, the car is becoming a playground for learning new ways to interact with technology. And in the long term, this brings us closer to becoming cyborgs, able to control devices with their minds.

Editing faces in images
Disney is looking to make it easier to “customize” faces in video. The brazil number data company’s proposed technology will allow you to change facial features and age, as well as ambient lighting and more. For example, if a movie needs a scene with a young Will Smith, Disney’s system could transform the actor’s face to make him look younger.

Many of them use neural networks, which do better with low-resolution images.
Retraining neural networks requires a lot of time and money.
The technology proposed by Disney could have a positive impact on content creation in the future. In the short term, it will increase the efficiency of film production. For example, if a scene needs to be reshot with a certain actor and he is unavailable for work, Disney will simply transplant his face into new footage.

In the future, the company will be able to create personalized content, including movies and cartoons from viewers. A similar idea has already appeared in a patent from Snap, the creator of Snapchat, which wanted to create videos with users and their friends.

Creating characters from images
Electronic Arts has proposed a technology that would generate character models based on multiple images. The system would select appropriate characteristics using neural networks.
