Choose between domain, subdomain or page.

We need to change and retire these tactics. So I have five tactics, but there are many more, and in fact I would love to hear from you about some of them.

Dino Tactic #1: Keyword research based on AdWords/Keyword Planner
But the first thing we'll start with is something we've talked about here a few times — keyword research based on AdWords and Keyword Planner. So you know there's a lot of trouble with metrics out there, but I still see a lot of people starting their keyword research there and then expanding into other tools.

For our example here, I've chosen a random uganda number data company in Durham, North Carolina called Garden Environment. The website has a domain authority of 17 with 38 root linking domains.

We can go ahead and copy-paste the domain into the “Discover link opportunities for this URL” at the top of the Link Intersect page. If you notice, we have a choice of “Root domain, subdomain, or exact page”:

I almost always choose the "root domain" because I'm promoting a site as a whole and I'm not interested in getting links from other sites to pages on the site that are already linked to elsewhere on the site. That is to say, by choosing the "root domain", any site that links to any page on your site will be excluded from the potential list. Of course, this may not be right for your situation. If you have a blog hosted on a subdomain or a page hosted on a site, you'll want to choose the subdomain or the exact page to make sure you're disallowing the right backlinks.

You also have the ability to choose whether we report root linking domains or backlinks to you. This is really important and I'll explain why.
