What's up with WhatsApp

Display of social media use in percentages from the social media research.

YouTube, Instagram and TikTok are therefore the big winners of 2020, when we talk about the number of Dutch users. 14% of young people between 15 and 19 even indicate that YouTube is the most important platform. And just to be clear: more important than Instagram and WhatsApp.

LinkedIn, Pinterest, Twitter & Snapchat
Just like all social media platforms highlighted in the social media research, LinkedIn , Pinterest, Twitter and Snapchat are also increasing in the number of users. Twitter and Snapchat are the biggest surprises with both an increase of 310,000 users at 13 percent. In terms of increase, these platforms are therefore just below Instagram in percentage terms.

LinkedIn and Pinterest are growing very little (70,000 and 45,000 users at 2 and 1 percent respectively).

You may have noticed. Where the focus in the social media research is also on WhatsApp, I have buy phone number list left this channel out of consideration here. Whether WhatsApp is also a social media platform is a discussion that is often held. But if we include this platform in the research, we should actually also include texting, calling, Facebook Messenger and Telegram.

For that reason I think the research result that we spend an average of 98 minutes on social media also gives a distorted picture. WhatsApp, with 9.1 million users, is also included in this.
