Scientists used eye-tracking technology – they tracked the eye movements of study participants while they were viewing landing pages. Having analyzed the entire array of collected data, they calculated how much time people focused their attention on certain elements of the web page: logo, pictures, social network icons, etc. (before moving on to the next element). A direct relationship was found between the duration of viewing the page and the first impression.

The following design components received the most attention:

Logo : Readers spent an average of 6.48 seconds looking at it.

Primary navigation menu : Subjects looked at it for about 6.44 seconds before moving their gaze on.

Search bar : visitors spent over 6 seconds on it.

Main image : held respondents' attention for about 5.94 seconds.

Texts : they were read for 5.59 seconds.

The footer took visitors about 5.25 seconds to view.
