Our job satisfaction survey provided interesting insights into the factors that promote employee well-being at work. The majority of respondents (62%) emphasized the importance of interpersonal relationships in the workplace to promote their well-being. Only then do they come up with meaningful, fulfilling work, salary, a healthy work-life balance and recognition of their work by management. So having a good relationship with colleagues is by far the most important factor in job satisfaction in German companies. We will see later that while this is one reason for well-being at work, it is not the only reason why employees stay in a job.

It is also interesting to look at the factors that are least important. Points such as benefits offered are highlighted in most job advertisements: however, only 13% of employees in Germany rate these as the most important factors for job satisfaction. Corporate culture and values are rated even lower at 12%. In the other countries surveyed, corporate culture is considered more important than in Germany. While France shows a similar figure at 13%, the figure is 24% in the UK, 30% in Australia, 25% in Canada and 19% in Mexico.
At work, companies can encourage social interaction by ensuring that everyone can participate in projects, express their opinions or contribute to solving problems. These are staff retention measures that promote collaboration but also cohesion in general.
