Making 'shopping' important is an obvious one, we are talking about a platform with inspiring images of fashion, interior and other products. And by making shopping more accessible in the Covid period, because online sales can be the salvation for many companies, now everyone can make everything shoppable. Instagram will go much further in this in the coming year, for example by giving Instagram creators the possibility to tag products from shops.

Will the content format Reels be introduced on other platforms, just like Stories?

Introducing Reels is an interesting move by Facebook. Just like with Stories, they copied the phone number library Reels content form from another app, in this case TikTok . They undoubtedly tried to buy the app, as they did with Instagram and Snapchat. Since that didn’t work out and TikTok kept growing, they switched to copying.

Facebook finds this form of content so interesting because it gives content creators context, making it easier to create. You can see Instagram as a blank canvas that you can fill in yourself. And if you have no idea what you want to do or what you can create, that becomes difficult. TikTok opted for the introduction of a fixed form: make a 15-second video and choose audio. This fixed form, in combination with the foryoupage, ensured a resounding success. The foryoupage is a page where you see content not only from accounts that you follow, but that is specially selected for you.
